What is a turret (eyeball) camera?
A turret, or eyeball, camera is a ball-shaped camera that sits in a fixed base and aims on a ball-and-socket joint. It looks similar to a dome but the lens sits outside a glass cover, which improves night vision.
Turret vs dome – what is the difference?
Both are compact and discreet, but a domes lens sits behind a curved cover that can cause IR glare at night. A turrets exposed lens avoids that glare and usually gives a cleaner night image, while a dome offers slightly better vandal protection.
Do turret cameras have better night vision?
Generally yes. Because the IR light is not reflecting off a dome cover, turrets produce crisper low-light footage, and ColorVu/Starlight models can even record in full colour at night.
Are turret cameras good for outdoors?
Yes. Weatherproof IP67 turret models handle the UAE climate well and are popular for shopfronts, entrances and villa exteriors where a clean night image matters.
Can turret cameras be vandal-resistant?
Many turret models carry impact ratings suitable for public areas. For the highest tamper resistance in reachable positions we may still recommend an IK10 dome.
Are turret cameras SIRA compliant?
Yes. We design and configure turret systems to SIRA (Dubai) and ADMCC (Abu Dhabi) standards and manage the approval process where required.
