Frequently asked questions
Is 4K CCTV worth it?
For entrances, tills, car parks and any area where you need to identify faces or number plates, yes – 4K captures roughly four times the detail of 1080p and lets you zoom into recordings without the image breaking up. For general wide coverage, 2MP-4MP is often enough.
Does 4K CCTV need special cabling?
4K is best run as an IP system over Cat6 with PoE. Existing coax can carry some 4K-over-coax models, but for full 8MP IP performance we usually recommend proper structured cabling, which we install in-house.
How much storage does 4K CCTV use?
4K uses more storage and bandwidth than 1080p, but modern H.265/H.265+ compression greatly reduces this. We size the NVR and drives to your camera count, frame rate and the 31-day SIRA retention minimum during design.
Can 4K cameras read number plates?
Yes – with correct positioning and lens choice, 4K cameras are excellent for capturing number plates and can feed ANPR analytics. We plan camera angles specifically for plate capture where needed.
Do I need 4K for every camera?
No. A common, cost-effective approach is 4K on key identification points (entrances, gates, tills) and 2MP-4MP for general coverage. We recommend the right mix in the free survey.
Are 4K cameras SIRA compliant?
Yes. 4K exceeds the SIRA minimum resolution, and we configure the full system to SIRA (Dubai) and ADMCC (Abu Dhabi) standards, handling approvals where required.
